A non-governmental organization, Muryar Talaka Awareness Initiative commended the 5th National Assembly for resisting efforts to truncate Nigeria’s nascent democracy.
The national secretary of the NGO, Comrade Bishir Dauda who spoke in Katsina at a one-day roundtable in commemoration of June 12 recalled how the 5th National Assembly distanced itself from the third term agenda of the then President Olusegun Obasanjo despite external pressure.
Bishir noted that the stand against the third term agenda saved the country from crisis and collapse of democracy.
He further described democracy as the best system of government, saying democracy brought development to Nigeria.
ln his contribution, a veteran journalist and publisher of Katsina Times Magazine, Mohammed Danjuma paid tribute to the late Shehu Musa Yar’Adua, Justice Mammam Nasir and M.D. Yusuf for their contribution toward the sustenance of democracy.
