The Kano State Government has successfully concluded the fourth cycle of the Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) campaign across all 44 local government areas of the state.
The exercise, which took place between Sunday, October 19 and Wednesday, October 22, 2025, was conducted by the Ministry of Health in collaboration with the Kano State Primary Health Care Management Board and other development partners.
This was contained in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry, Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa.
According to the statement, the campaign targeted children aged three to 59 months through house-to-house visits where preventive malaria drugs were administered, alongside sensitization on environmental hygiene and malaria prevention.
The statement explained that the conclusion of the fourth cycle coincided with the end of the rainy season and the onset of the cold season, a period when mosquito breeding rates begin to decline. It, however, urged residents to maintain environmental cleanliness to prevent malaria transmission.
“The success of the campaign was made possible through the dedication and commitment of health workers at all levels who ensured the exercise was effectively executed,” the statement said.
The Ministry advised residents to continue using insecticide-treated mosquito nets and to eliminate stagnant water in their surroundings to reduce mosquito breeding even during the cold season.
It further appreciated healthcare workers, partners, and the public for their cooperation, while reaffirming the government’s commitment to sustaining quality health programmes aimed at protecting lives and improving the well-being of residents across the state.
