In a continued effort to revamp the education sector, the Kano State Government has distributed 16,800 units of primary school furniture to public schools across the state.
The initiative is part of Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf’s commitment to improving learning conditions following the declaration of a state of emergency on education.
Speaking at the official distribution ceremony on Monday, the Governor—represented by his Deputy, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo—said the intervention reflects the administration’s resolve to transform the educational system in the state.
“This distribution of school furniture is a direct response to the declaration of a state of emergency on education,” he said. “It reflects our government’s commitment to enhancing the learning environment for our students.”
According to him, the newly distributed furniture will be allocated to newly constructed and renovated classrooms, as well as to those in urgent need of replacement.
The deputy governor disclosed that in the last two years, the administration has secured and distributed 53,902 units of furniture to pupils in various primary schools. “Today, we are adding 16,800 more as part of the balance for the year 2024,” he added.
Comrade Gwarzo emphasized that Governor Yusuf’s administration remains committed to addressing the foundational challenges in the education sector, including dilapidated infrastructure, inadequate learning materials, and overcrowded classrooms.
He also called on school heads, teachers, and local education authorities to take ownership of the items and ensure proper maintenance, so they can serve many students over the coming years.
The latest distribution is expected to benefit hundreds of schools across urban and rural areas in Kano State, further solidifying the government’s resolve to provide quality education for all.
