Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State on Friday attended the twin turbaning ceremony of former Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Justice A.B. Mahmud (SAN), and former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Mohammed Dikko Umar (retd.), at the Emir’s Palace in Kano.
Mahmud was installed as the Garkuwan Kano, while Umar was turbaned as Sarkin Fulanin Ja’idanawa of Kano during the ceremony presided over by the Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.
The governor was represented by his deputy, Murtala Sule Garo, according to a statement issued on Friday by the Deputy Governor’s Public Relations Officer, Lurwanu Idris Malikawa Garu.
The event drew prominent dignitaries, including former President Olusegun Obasanjo, former Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Waziri Tambuwal, former Kano State Governor and National Leader of the New Nigeria People’s Party, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, top government officials, traditional rulers and other distinguished guests.
Speaking at the ceremony, Sanusi congratulated the newly installed title holders, describing the honours as well deserved.
“I congratulate the newly turbaned title holders on their well-deserved recognition,” the Emir said.
He urged them to promote unity within the Dambazawa family and contribute to preserving the dignity of the traditional institution.
“Continue promoting unity among the Dambazawa family and support efforts aimed at preserving the dignity and sanctity of the traditional institution,” he added.
In a related development, Garo also represented Yusuf at the wedding ceremony of Abdussamad Mustapha Hamza Buhari and his bride, Rabiatu Abdullahi Bayero.
The deputy governor served as wakili for the groom, who is the son of the Governor’s Special Adviser on Political Affairs, Mustapha Hamza Buhari, popularly known as Bakwana. A dowry of N500,000 was paid to solemnise the marriage.
Congratulating the couple and their families, Garo prayed for a successful and enduring union.
“May Allah bless this union, guide the couple and grant them a peaceful, successful and prosperous married life,” he said.
Also on Friday, the deputy governor, on behalf of the governor, paid a condolence visit to the Chief Executive Officer of Al-Yauma Fertilizer, Alhaji Ali Me Taki, over the death of his personal driver, Malam Muhammad Dankabo.
Dankabo died on Thursday at the age of 80 and is survived by wives, children and grandchildren.
Garo prayed for the repose of the deceased’s soul and urged the family to remain steadfast.
“May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, grant him Aljannatul Firdaus and give the family the strength and fortitude to bear this irreparable loss,” he said.
