The Kano State Government has taken a significant step toward modernizing its justice system by equipping state legal counsels with cutting-edge technology to enhance efficiency and productivity.
Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Barr. Haruna Isa Dederi, disclosed this at the closing ceremony of a retreat organized by the Ministry of Justice in Kaduna.
The retreat focused on strengthening the capacity of state legal counsels in using technology, including multiple software tools for virtual court sittings.
Dederi emphasized that providing modern technology is crucial to improving the legal system’s effectiveness, ensuring smoother legal proceedings, and enhancing data documentation.
He highlighted that the initiative aligns with the government’s broader strategy to reform the justice sector.
The capacity-building program covered areas such as artificial intelligence, forensic investigation, and server security, addressing operational gaps and boosting efficiency in legal processes.
Dederi commended the Kano State Government for supplying laptops and essential materials to all state legal counsels, calling it a groundbreaking move in the Ministry’s history.
He also recalled that Governor Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf recently employed 70 new lawyers, with plans to increase the number to 100 or more to address manpower shortages and improve legal services.
The Attorney General praised the governor’s commitment to funding the justice sector and creating an enabling environment for innovation. He urged participants to apply their newly acquired knowledge to enhance justice delivery in the state.
