The Kano State Government has commended residents of the state for complying with health guidelines issued ahead of the recent Eid-el-Kabir celebrations, describing the public cooperation as a key factor in ensuring a disease-free and peaceful festival.

In a statement issued on Tuesday by the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Health, Nabilusi Abubakar K/Na’isa, the state’s Commissioner for Health, Dr. Abubakar Labaran Yusuf, expressed profound appreciation to the people of Kano for heeding the call to prioritize health and safety during the religious festivities.

Dr. Yusuf said the government was pleased with the level of adherence to precautionary measures, particularly those related to the health status of sacrificial animals, meat hygiene, and food safety.

“There was no reported outbreak of disease linked to animal slaughter or food consumption during the Eid-el-Kabir period. This was largely due to the public’s commitment to the health advisory issued by the Ministry,” the Commissioner said.

He explained that the state had earlier disseminated guidelines urging residents to ensure the sacrificial animals were healthy, and to properly clean and cook meat, among other practices aimed at preventing zoonotic diseases—those transmissible from animals to humans.

According to Dr. Yusuf, the compliance recorded during the celebrations reflected growing public trust in the government’s health interventions and demonstrated the increasing health consciousness of citizens.

“This level of cooperation shows how much our people are beginning to appreciate the importance of public health directives. We are grateful for their responsiveness,” he said.

He further assured that the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf remains committed to enhancing the state’s healthcare system and to ensuring the welfare and safety of all residents.

While thanking the public once again for contributing to a peaceful and joyful Sallah celebration, the Health Commissioner also encouraged residents to maintain good hygiene practices and health-conscious behaviors beyond the festive season.

“We urge everyone to continue observing basic hygiene and preventive measures at all times. Good health should not only be a festive concern but a lifestyle,” he added.

The statement reiterated the state government’s resolve to keep health promotion and disease prevention at the forefront of its policy agenda.
