The Kano State Government has expressed readiness to partner with Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN) in its push to improve academic standards as part of the recently declared State of Emergency on Education.
The Deputy Governor, Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo, who also doubles as Commissioner for Higher Education, made this known on Monday while receiving the management of KHAIRUN led by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Abdul Rashid Garba, in his office.
This was contained in a statement issued on Monday by the Deputy Governor’s Press Secretary, Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu.
Gwarzo commended the university for complementing government reforms and said the recommendations submitted by the institution on improving the sector would be thoroughly reviewed.
According to him, the state is considering sponsorship opportunities for indigenes to study at KHAIRUN as part of a long-term strategy to build human capital.
“We will study your recommendations carefully. The government is committed to working with institutions like yours to ensure the State of Emergency on Education produces tangible results,” he said.
The Deputy Governor also praised the university’s efforts in addressing the “30-70 formula” in education planning, a model KHAIRUN believes will help bridge gaps in the system.
He commended the institution’s “innovative drive and commitment to fulfilling the vision of its founder,” adding that the government welcomes partnerships that strengthen quality education.
Earlier, KHAIRUN’s Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Garba, said the visit was aimed at strengthening ties with the state government and supporting its education reforms.
He disclosed that the institution had recently organised a seminar reviewing the government’s policy interventions from early childhood education to tertiary level.
According to him, the exercise produced key recommendations, including the need for a legal framework to guide policy execution and the formation of committees comprising education practitioners to oversee implementation.
Prof. Garba thanked the Deputy Governor for the warm reception, describing the engagement as a step toward deepening collaboration in advancing education in Kano.
