The Management of the Kano School of Legal Studies has appealed to the Kano State Government for increased support and collaboration to address challenges confronting the institution and improve the quality of legal education.
The appeal was made when the Acting Head of the School, Dr. Ali Tamasi Mu’azu, led a delegation on a working visit to the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, to discuss the development and challenges of the institution.
Dr. Mu’azu said the visit was part of efforts by the school management to strengthen its partnership with the state government and seek solutions to issues affecting the effective operation of the institution.
He highlighted some of the challenges facing the school, including welfare and infrastructural needs, inadequate equipment and other facilities required to provide a conducive environment for teaching, learning and administration.
The Acting Head stressed that the School of Legal Studies plays an important role in training students who will become professionals in the legal sector, adding that greater attention and support would enable the institution to perform its responsibilities more effectively.
He said addressing the challenges would contribute significantly to the development of education and the production of competent personnel who can contribute to the justice system and the overall development of Kano State.
Responding, Commissioner Waiya acknowledged the concerns raised by the school management and commended the delegation for seeking constructive engagement with the government to find solutions to the challenges confronting the institution.
Waiya emphasised the importance of collaboration among government institutions in addressing challenges that could hinder development, noting that effective cooperation was essential to strengthening public institutions and improving service delivery.
The Commissioner further acknowledged the importance of creating a better teaching and learning environment at the school, saying that institutions responsible for training future legal professionals require adequate support and facilities to fulfil their mandates.
The visit provided an opportunity for both sides to discuss possible areas of support and collaboration, with the shared objective of strengthening the Kano School of Legal Studies and ensuring that it continues to produce well-trained and competent legal professionals for the state and beyond.
