The Kano Municipal Local Government has called on small-scale industries to ensure the timely payment of internally generated revenue (IGR) to support developmental projects and government policies.
The Special Adviser to the Kano Municipal Local Government Chairman on Traders, Investment, and Markets, Hajiya Mariya Ali Zage, made this appeal during her official visit to small-scale industries and business owners at Sharada Market.
She emphasized the importance of IGR in funding essential social amenities, stressing that prompt payments would enable the government to continue delivering key infrastructure and services to the people.
Hajiya Mariya commended the Kano State Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, and the Chairman of Kano Municipal Local Government, Alhaji Saleem Hashim, for their dedication to equitable rural infrastructure development and improved healthcare services.
She urged residents to support the administration’s initiatives to achieve its developmental goals.
In their remarks, the Chairman of Small-Scale Industries, Alhaji Muhammad Khamis Umar, along with Alhaji Hudu Abdullahi Sharada and Usman Muhammad, appealed for a centralized revenue collection system to enhance accountability and prevent confusion.
The business representatives also called on the local government to construct drainage systems in small-scale industry areas and within Sharada Market in preparation for the rainy season.
Additionally, they requested the installation of more security lights and the deployment of security personnel to improve safety in the market.
The business community reaffirmed their commitment to cooperating with the administration of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf and Chairman Saleem Hashim, acknowledging their efforts to make Kano a model city.
