The Katsina State Government has commenced the compilation of its 2024/2025 Gross Domestic Product, in a move aimed at strengthening economic planning, fiscal management and development policy.
Speaking at the flag-off ceremony, the Commissioner for Budget and Economic Development, Malik Anas, described the exercise as a major milestone in entrenching credible, data-driven governance in the state.
According to him, the generation of reliable GDP estimates would enhance planning, budgeting and investment decision-making processes.
“The compilation of the 2024/2025 GDP is not merely a statistical requirement; it is a deliberate initiative aimed at unveiling the state’s economic realities and guiding informed policy decisions,” Anas said.
He added that the exercise reflected the strong commitment of Governor Dikko Umar Radda to transparency, fiscal discipline and inclusive economic growth.
Anas called on ministries, departments and agencies, as well as the private sector and development partners, to fully support the exercise to ensure accurate and credible outcomes.
He also commended the National Bureau of Statistics for providing technical support toward the successful completion of the exercise.
Earlier, the Statistician-General of the Katsina State Bureau of Statistics, Prof Saifullahi Sani Ibrahim, said the GDP compilation would serve as a critical tool in addressing unemployment, food insecurity and revenue generation challenges in the state.
“This exercise will help the state government design policies that tackle unemployment, enhance food security and improve internally generated revenue,” Ibrahim said.
He urged officials and consultants involved in the process to ensure professionalism and accuracy in order to produce a dependable GDP account for the state.
