From Muawuya Bala Idris, Katsina
The Katsina State Government has approved the release of N3.4 billion to local government areas across the state to mitigate flooding during the 2025 rainy season.
The Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Bishir Tanimu Dutsinma, disclosed this to newsmen on Friday shortly after a meeting with local government chairmen.
Tanimu explained that the meeting, presided over by the Acting Governor, Faruk Lawal Jobe, resolved that each of the 34 local government councils will receive N100 million as part of urgent interventions to avert possible flooding, as predicted by the Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMET).
According to him, the funds will be used for the construction of drainages, erosion control, and other environmental challenges threatening communities across the state. He added that councils were also directed to repair damaged roofs of public schools and health centers.
The Commissioner further revealed that part of the funds would go into the reconstruction of deplorable feeder roads in rural areas to ease access for farmers and residents.
He stressed that the ministry will closely monitor the judicious utilization of the funds, while commending Governor Dikko Umar Radda for his commitment to empowering local governments to execute people-oriented projects.
Tanimu recalled that recently, the state government released N200 million to each local government for project execution, in addition to N47 million provided to each council for the take-off of Agricultural Mechanization Centers. Here’s a polished version of your story with proper structure, clarity, and a professionally edited title:
