District heads in Katsina State will now earn salaries equivalent to civil service Grade Level 16, Governor Dikko Umar Radda has announced.
Radda disclosed this on Monday when he received traditional rulers from the Katsina and Daura Emirates at Government House. He said the increment was backed by a new law recently passed by the State House of Assembly.
According to the governor, the new law was designed to strengthen the role of traditional institutions in governance and motivate grassroots leaders.
“District heads in Katsina will now earn not less than Grade Level 16. Government has also increased the monthly allowance of 6,652 ward heads across the state,” Radda said.
He added that the state government would also extend support to clerics and mosque workers.
“More than 3,000 Imams of Juma’at Mosques and their deputies will be supported with stipends, while Izala and Dariga mosque sweepers will also be given allowances,” the governor stated.
The governor further announced the release of ₦20 million to each of the 34 local government areas for the repair and maintenance of graveyards.
He described the initiatives as both a service to the people and a spiritual investment for the state.
“This is not just governance; it is a way of seeking Allah’s blessings for Katsina,” Radda added.
The governor urged traditional rulers and religious leaders to intensify prayers for an end to insecurity in the state, stressing that the fight against banditry and other crimes should not be left for government alone.
“The battle against insecurity is a collective responsibility. Every citizen must play a part,” he said.
In their remarks, the Emir of Katsina, Abdulmumini Kabir, and the Emir of Daura, Faruk Umar, commended the government’s efforts to restore peace in the state.
They were represented by the Wazirin Katsina, Ibrahim Iddah, and the District Head of Baure, Daha Umar, respectively.
