From Muawuya Bala Idris, Katsina
The Katsina State Government has distributed 40,000 goats worth N5.7 billion to 3,610 women across the state as part of efforts to enhance their economic status.
Governor Dikko Umar Radda, while flagging off the distribution at Dan’Nakola village, said the initiative aims to economically empower women, particularly those engaged in livestock farming.
He noted that large-scale farmers were also among the beneficiaries.
According to him, the beneficiaries were selected from 361 wards across the 34 local government areas of the state. Each beneficiary received three female goats and one male goat to encourage sustainable livestock rearing.
Governor Radda further stated that the government would provide animal feed to support the successful rearing of the goats.
He explained that the beneficiaries would repay in kind by returning an equal number of goats after a specified period, ensuring the continuity of the program.
He urged them to abide by the program’s guidelines so that others could also benefit.
Earlier, the Special Adviser on Livestock and Grazing Reserves, Yusuf Suleiman Jibia, stated that all the goats had been treated and inoculated against diseases before distribution.
He described the initiative as a significant milestone in promoting economic development and women’s empowerment. Jibia commended the government for introducing the program and supporting rural communities.
