Katsina State government has taken a significant step towards addressing the issue of sexual assault by establishing a dedicated Sexual Assault Referral Center.
The centre is designed to provide comprehensive medical, psychological, and legal support to rape victims.
Jamila Abdu Mani, Special Adviser to the Governor on Child Girl Education and Development, announced the establishment of the centre.
She highlighted that the facility is equipped with the necessary resources to provide effective services to survivors of sexual assault.
During a recent visit to the centre, the Deputy Director of the International Rescue Committee (IRC), Mr Brian Dhiksooka, commended the state government’s initiative.
He expressed gratitude to the IRC for its role in training staff and providing essential equipment, including a solar borehole, to ensure the smooth operation of the centre.
Dhiksooka emphasized the IRC’s commitment to partnering with the state government to enhance the centre’s capacity.
He stated that the organization would work to ensure that the referral centre delivers efficient services to rape victims and identify additional areas where the IRC can provide support.
This development is a positive step towards providing justice and healing to survivors of sexual assault in Katsina State.
