The Katsina State Government has reiterated its commitment to addressing issues of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in the state.
This was disclosed by the Special Adviser, Department of Girl Child Education and Child Development, Hajiya Jamila Abdu Mani, during a one-day sensitisation campaign held at Government Pilot Junior Secondary School, Muhammadu Buhari in Daura. The event marked the ongoing 16 Days of Activism Against Gender-Based Violence.
Organized in collaboration with the Institute of Human Virology of Nigeria, the campaign aimed to raise awareness and promote strategies to combat GBV. Representing Hajiya Jamila Abdu Mani at the event, the Permanent Secretary of the Department, Alhaji Aminu Badru, highlighted the government’s commitment to tackling GBV through enhanced sensitisation efforts via media and public engagements.
Hajiya Jamila emphasized that the establishment of the Sexual Assault Referral Center in Katsina State has been a pivotal initiative in addressing GBV.
The centre provides comprehensive support for survivors, including medical care, psychological counselling, and legal assistance.
In his remarks, Mr. Aaron Jacob, Executive Director of the Community Information Awareness Initiative (CIAI), commended the Katsina State Government for its collaborative efforts.
He called on stakeholders to ensure the sustainability of the initiatives and continue the fight against GBV.
The sensitisation campaign featured presentations by three speakers: Hajiya Zainab Abdulkarim, Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics, Department of Girl Child Education; Hajiya Nafisa Umar, who discussed the critical role of women in society; and Hajiya Farida, who addressed the causes and consequences of Gender-Based Violence.
The campaign underscored the importance of collective action and continued awareness in eliminating Gender-Based Violence in Katsina State.
