Katsina State Government has introduced an agricultural education programme in primary schools.
The Executive Chairman of the state Primary Education Board, Kabir Magaji revealed this at a news conference.
Magaji said the programme, which is being run in collaboration with the Universal Basic Education Board (UBEC), is to prepare pupils for self-reliance.
He said one per cent of total government funding from UBEC and state governments is being used for the programme in selected 120 schools.
He said so far, about N48 million was expended on the purchase of bro, ers chic, ken and training of beneficiaries.
He said the board also has introduced farming in selected primary schools.
“We are optimistic these measures will assist primary school pupils become self-reliant after graduation,” he noted.
Magaji, who spoke at length on the achievements of the board, said so far, about N15.3 billion was released to the board as counterpart funding from UBEC and state government within the last 14 months.
He said the board judiciously utilise the amount to promote Primary education.
Magaji said the board has renovated deplorable structures of primaschoolsool and new ones and addressed some challenges facing schools.
He further said the company purchased and distributed teaching material and trained thousands of teachers.
He commended UBEC and the state government for their financial assistance to the board.Compose Message
