Katsina state government has procured equipment worth over ₦700 million for the rehabilitation of the Ajiwa water treatment plant.
Inspecting the equipment on arrival to the state, Director of Urban Water Supply of the state Ministry of Water Resources, Eng. Kabir Ismail said installation of the equipment will soon commence.
Ismail said the project marks the first major rehabilitation of Ajiwa since 1994.
He added that Ajiwa is now operating below capacity causing scarcity of water supply in metropolitan areas.
According to him, the dam was designed to provide 50 million litres of water per day but provide 25 million litres.
“As soon as the installation of the equipment is completed, the dam will provide more litres of water to ease the scarcity of water,” he said.
He said the government has embarked on rehabilitation of the Funtua, Sabke and Malunfashi dams to improve the supply of water.
