The basketball team of Khalifa Isyaku Rabiu University (KHAIRUN) will face Bayero University, Kano (BUK) in the first semi-final of the ongoing Kanawa Tertiary Institution Basketball Championship.
In the second semi-final, Aliko Dangote University of Science and Technology, Wudil, will take on Northwest University, Kano. Both matches will be played at the BUK basketball court.
The championship, organized in collaboration with DAM Foundation, serves as a preparatory tournament ahead of the zonal preliminaries and the Nigerian University Games Association (NUGA) competition, scheduled to take place at the University of Jos in May 2025.
Speaking about the tournament, the chairman of the NUGA technical committee, Prof. Musa Garba Yakasai, described the event as a platform to train and discover hidden talents for zonal and national competitions.
He commended DAM Foundation for its support and sponsorship, urging the organization to extend its backing to NUGA to further enhance the development of various sporting events in the country.
Meanwhile, the Vice-Chancellor of BUK, Prof. Sagir Adamu Abbas, along with other stakeholders and the Director-General of the National Energy Commission, Dr. Abdullahi Mustapha, is expected to attend the closing ceremony, scheduled for tomorrow (Saturday) at 4 p.m. at the same venue.
