The Police in Kogi state have detained three suspects for impersonating the Kogi First Lady, Hajia Sefinat Usman-Ododo, to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.
The Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, for the Police Command in the state, SP. Williams Ovye-Aya, who confirmed the story on Tuesday in Lokoja, added that the suspects, whose names were withheld, were kept in the custody of the Police Quick Response Unit, Lokoja.
According to SP. Ovye-Aya, the suspects printed and sold fraudulent forms for a non-existent empowerment programme, falsely claiming it was affiliated with the First Lady.
The forms were labelled with the name: Kogi State Cooperative Federation of Nigeria.
The suspects were apprehended in Lokoja on Tuesday after an undercover agent purchased one of the fraudulent forms.
The case is currently under investigation, and the suspects will be prosecuted once the investigation is complete, according to the police image maker.
