From Mu’awuya Bala Idris, Katsina
The Katsina State Government has strongly condemned the tragic killings that occurred in Kokami Village, Yakaji ‘A’ Ward of Danja Local Government Area of the state.
The government was reacting to an incident that took place on April 4, 2026, following a disagreement between two individuals, Ibrahim Khalil Auwal and one Joe, also identified as K.C. Jones over the purchase of garri and sachet water at the latter’s shop.
The minor altercation reportedly escalated when Joe allegedly stabbed Ibrahim Khalil Auwal during the dispute.
The victim was rushed to Abdullahi Makama Hospital in Dabai Village, where he was later confirmed dead.
Following news of his death, some aggrieved youths in the community reportedly mobilised, attacked Joe, killed him, and set his body ablaze along the highway.
In a statement issued by the Commissioner for the Ministry of Internal Security and Home Affairs, Dr. Nasiru Mu’azu Danmusa, the development was described as deeply unfortunate, unacceptable, and contrary to the values of hospitality and peaceful coexistence in Katsina State.
Danmusa stressed that the incident was purely a criminal act arising from a personal dispute and should not be misconstrued as an ethnic or religious conflict.
He assured that all those involved in the violence would be brought to justice, warning that no individual has the right to take the law into their own hands.
He further stated that those responsible for both the initial attack and the reprisal killing would be identified and prosecuted.
The commissioner called on residents to remain calm, law-abiding, and to refrain from spreading rumours or misinformation capable of escalating tensions.
He added that security agencies have been deployed to the area, with joint patrols ongoing to maintain peace and prevent any further breakdown of law and order.
Danmusa further disclosed that the state government, under the leadership of Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, commiserates with the families of the deceased and prayed for the repose of their souls.
The Governor also urged community leaders, religious leaders, and other stakeholders to support ongoing efforts to sustain peace and harmony across the state.
