A 19-year-old student of Confluence University of Science and Technology (CUSTEC), Usman Tijani, was attacked and seriously injured by his friend at a burial ground in Adavi Local Government Area of Kogi State.

The incident occurred on Tuesday, December 24, 2024, when the suspect, Abdulmuqeet Musari, lured Tijani to the burial ground under the pretence of friendship.

According to Zainab Avosuahi, a family member of the victim, Musari robbed Tijani of N200,000, the proceeds from his Point of Sale (POS) business, and then brutally attacked him, inflicting serious throat injuries.

“My nephew, who runs a POS business, was lured into the bush by his friend,” Avosuahi said. “The suspect collected N200,000 from him and then slit his throat. He is currently undergoing surgery in Lokoja while the suspect fled the scene.”

However, the suspect was apprehended by local vigilantes and security personnel who tracked him down to a neighbouring community in Ekiti State.

Suleiman Abdulrazaq Acheneje, Senior Special Assistant to the Adavi Local Government Chairman, Hon. Bashiru Okatenwu, praised the swift action of the security team.

“In the late hours of December 23rd, this horrific incident occurred near the Adavi burial ground,” Acheneje stated. “Usman, a 200-level Cyber Security student at CUSTEC, was brutally attacked by Abdulmuqeet Musari with the intent to kill him.”

“The victim was found critically injured and rescued around 2 am on Christmas Day. He was immediately rushed to a hospital in Lokoja for treatment,” Acheneje added.
The suspect was handed over to the police.

The Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), SP Williams Aya, confirmed the incident and the arrest of the suspect.

“The suspect is currently in police custody, and investigations are ongoing,” Aya said. “He will be arraigned in court upon completion of the investigation.”
