This was disclosed in a press release issued in Abuja on Wednesday by the Chief Military Information Officer at HQ MNJTF in N’Djamena, Chad, Lieutenant Colonel Olaniyi Osoba. The release stated that, consolidating on a recent victory, the troops—working in coordination with a hybrid force and supported by air components—intercepted and neutralized fleeing, wounded ISWAP terrorists while also capturing a significant cache of weapons.
According to Lieutenant Colonel Osoba, “During the meticulously coordinated air and ground clearance operations, our air component successfully targeted and interdicted several armed and wounded terrorists on motorcycles, who were regrouping in Guzamala. In a follow-up ground operation, troops eliminated 15 terrorists and captured one alive as they attempted to flee after sustaining additional injuries.”
The troops also destroyed three more Vehicle-Borne Improvised Explosive Devices (VBIEDs), bringing the total number of VBIEDs destroyed to seven.
The operation led to the recovery of a significant cache of weapons, including seven AK-47 rifles, one Rocket Propelled Grenade (RPG) bomb and tube, two anti-aircraft guns, and 152 rounds of Shilka ammunition.
“The ongoing clearance operation marks a decisive step in the effort to restore peace and security in the region, further weakening the terrorists’ ranks,” Osoba said. “The MNJTF remains steadfast in its commitment to eradicating terrorist threats and ensuring the safety of the local population.”
