The Plateau State Governor, Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang, has convened an emergency State Security Council meeting to address emerging security challenges confronting parts of the state.

The meeting, chaired by the governor and attended by the Deputy Governor, Ngo Josephine Piyo, brought together heads of security agencies, chairmen of the 17 local government councils, and the Chairman of the Plateau State Joint Traditional Council.

During the meeting, critical security issues affecting the state were discussed, while resolutions were adopted to provide effective strategies aimed at safeguarding the lives and property of citizens.

Briefing journalists shortly after the meeting, the Secretary to the Government of the State, Samuel Nanchang Jatau, said the council carried out a comprehensive appraisal of the current security situation across the state and reached far-reaching resolutions to improve security.

According to him, the council resolved to intensify the enforcement of the ban on motorcycles, night grazing, and night mining activities in order to curb factors fueling insecurity in the state.

He further disclosed that all ungoverned spaces, government institutions, and lands would be reclaimed by security agencies, while the state government would provide additional logistics support, including motorcycles and vehicles, to security agencies with immediate effect.

Arc. Jatau explained that the council also agreed on the need to strengthen synergy and intelligence sharing among local government councils, security agencies, and communities.

The council further resolved that any blockage of highways by individuals or groups would henceforth be treated as a criminal act, with perpetrators made to face the full weight of the law.

On agriculture and food security, the council stressed the need to protect farmlands and ensure they remain safe ahead of the farming season.

The council also directed traditional rulers to maintain strict oversight over traditional institutions and cultural associations operating within their domains.

According to the SSG, the Plateau State Government remains committed to securing lives and property across the state and will continue to implement measures aimed at restoring peace and stability.

He added that the government has also declared a renewed crackdown on drug dealers, traffickers, and users within the state.
