The National Assembly has confirmed the appointment of Prof. Saleh Abdullahi Usman as the new Chairman of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON).
He takes over as the 6th Chairman after Malam Jalal Ahmed Arabi following the change of leadership of the commission.
The confirmation comes after the Senate Committee on Foreign Affairs screened Professor Usman on 8th October 2024.
The confirmation is a reflection of the Assembly’s confidence in the new Chairman’s capacity to steer NAHCON through its mission of ensuring efficient and successful Hajj operations for Nigerian pilgrims.
Prof. Usman expressed gratitude for the trust placed in him by both the Executive and Legislative branches of government.
He pledged to build on the achievements made by his predecessors in ensuring the progress of the Hajj industry in Nigeria, focusing on the welfare of Nigerian pilgrims and their ability to accomplish Hajj mabrur (the accepted Hajj).
With the National Assembly’s confirmation, Prof. Usman gave assurance to remain even more committed to fulfilling NAHCON’s mandate and seeking everyone’s prayers and support in delivering on the expectations of all stakeholders.
“We will continue to improve our services to Nigerian pilgrims, working closely with all stakeholders to provide a safe and spiritually fulfilling pilgrimage,” he stressed.
The chairman had previously served in the Hajj industry under Kano State Pilgrims Welfare Board as its Chairman.
The leadership transition comes at a critical time as NAHCON prepares for the upcoming Hajj season along Saudi Arabia’s timeline.
The chairman’s confirmation is expected to accelerate preparations.
It is also expected to further enhance the commission’s collaborations with all stakeholders to ensure a successful Hajj for all Nigerian intending pilgrims, according to a statement issued by Fatima Sanda Usara, the Assistant Director of Public Affairs of the commission and made available to The Triumph today.
