The National Council of Women Societies, Kano State chapter, has condemned the killing of the wife and six children of a Kano resident, Mallam Haruna Bashir, describing the incident as shocking and disturbing.
The condemnation was made by the National President of the NCWS, Kano chapter, Hajiya Gambo Abdullahi Garba, during a condolence visit to Bashir’s family at his parents’ residence in Kofar Nassarawa area of the state on Monday.
The victims were reportedly killed in Chiranci area within the Kano metropolis in recent days.
Garba said the incident underscored the urgent need for justice, calling on the Attorney General of Kano State, the judiciary, traditional rulers, security agencies and community elders to ensure that those responsible were punished in accordance with the law.
She stressed that justice must be carried out with fairness, sincerity and fear of God to prevent a recurrence of such crimes in society.
“Human life is sacred, and it is the collective responsibility of all stakeholders to protect lives and uphold justice,” she said.
The NCWS leader also urged the Kano State Government to ensure that court judgments on the suspects were promptly implemented, noting reports that the suspects involved had confessed to the crime.
According to her, swift justice would help ease the trauma of the bereaved father and serve as a deterrent to others.
Garba further expressed appreciation to individuals and organisations that supported Bashir with financial assistance, as well as sponsorship for Umrah and Hajj.
She prayed that Allah grant mercy to the deceased, forgive their shortcomings and give the bereaved family the strength to endure the loss.
