From Muawuya Bala Idris, Katsina
The National Orientation Agency (NOA) has launched a security awareness campaign in Katsina State, targeting markets, motor parks, and advocacy visits.
The Director-General of the agency, Mallam Lanre Issa-Onilu, disclosed this at a news conference in Katsina. He was represented by the Director of Reforms and Coordination, Mr. John Bala.
According to him, the campaign will reach no fewer than three million Nigerians in each state through various media engagements.
He explained that the initiative is part of the agency’s efforts to engage citizens in complementing government efforts to tackle insecurity.
Issa-Onilu added that the agency has also embarked on a nationwide enlightenment campaign on government policies, programmes, and four key issues across the 36 states.
These issues include: national values, reorientation of secondary and tertiary students against extreme practices, flood mitigation, and the Nigerian identity project with emphasis on national symbols.
He said the public would also be sensitised on government policies such as the Nigerian Education Loan Fund (NELFUND), the Social Safety Net Expansion Programme, the Renewed Hope Infrastructure Fund, the National Youth Investment Fund, and the Industrial Training Fund.
According to him, these policies are geared towards improving the lives of Nigerians, noting that the administration of President Bola Tinubu introduced the NELFUND loan to ensure every Nigerian has access to education, with over 600,000 students already onboarded and more than ₦59 billion disbursed.
He urged Nigerians to make good use of these programmes to better their lives.
In his remarks, the Katsina State Director of the Agency, Muhtari Tsagam, called on the media to partner with the NOA for the success of the campaign.
