From Muawuya Bala Idris, Katsina
The Nigeria Society of Engineers (NSE), Katsina Branch, has raised alarm over the growing incidence of quackery in the engineering profession.
The Chairman of the branch, Engr. Shamsu Bishir Ibrahim, made the concern known during the inauguration of newly elected officials of the society, held at the Gwagware Foundation.
Engr. Ibrahim said the rise in unqualified individuals parading themselves as engineers poses serious danger to lives, property, and public confidence in the profession. He urged members of the NSE in the state to unite and confront the problem decisively.
“Let us report and resist any attempt to sideline the profession or compromise standards,” he said.
He warned those presenting themselves as engineers without the required qualifications or registration with the NSE to desist, adding that the society will collaborate with security agencies to arrest and prosecute offenders.
The chairman pledged to lead with the fear of God and operate an open-door policy for the progress of the society.
Engr. Ibrahim also appealed to the Katsina State Government to implement the National Establishment Circular (NEC), which places the entry point for engineers in the civil service at Grade Level 08.
He noted that the circular had already been approved at the federal level and adopted by several states.
He commended Governor Dikko Umaru Radda’s administration for its ongoing infrastructure development and urban renewal projects aimed at expanding the metropolitan area and boosting economic activities.
Earlier, Governor Radda, represented by the Commissioner for Works and Housing, Engr. Magaji Ingawa, congratulated the newly inaugurated executive members and assured them of the government’s support in discharging their mandate.
He urged the NSE to work closely with the government to ensure the execution of quality projects across the state.
The event was attended by a large gathering of engineers from different parts of Katsina State.
