Cross River State Governor, Bassey Otu, has assured the people of Obanliku Local Government Area of accelerated development, following a unanimous endorsement of his second-term bid by political leaders, traditional rulers and stakeholders from the area ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The governor gave the assurance on Tuesday while receiving a delegation of Obanliku stakeholders at his residence in Calabar.

Otu described Obanliku as one of the state’s most strategic local government areas, citing its rich tourism and agricultural potential as key drivers of Cross River’s economic diversification.

He announced that the state government had resolved issues surrounding the concession of the Obudu Mountain Resort and concluded arrangements with a major investor to commence its comprehensive redevelopment.

According to the governor, the facility will undergo a massive transformation within the next year, while complementary projects, including road construction, improved street lighting and the upgrade of surrounding communities, will create a modern tourism corridor capable of attracting local and international visitors.

Otu reiterated his administration’s commitment to building a productive economy anchored on agriculture, livestock development, entrepreneurship and private-sector investment, stressing that prudent management of public resources remains essential for sustainable growth.

He also assured residents that investments in roads, healthcare, education, security and economic opportunities would continue despite criticisms from some quarters, while reaffirming his commitment to protecting the state’s economic interests and attracting strategic development partnerships.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, elder statesman, Fidelis Ugbo, praised the governor for restoring peace, accelerating development and reviving the Obudu Mountain Resort.

He formally declared the support of the people of Obanliku for Otu’s re-election in 2027.

Former Secretary to the State Government, Mike Aniah, described the gathering as historic, commending the governor for promoting fairness, inclusion and merit through appointments and developmental projects while appealing for more appointments for qualified indigenes.

The Paramount Ruler of Obanliku, Uchua Amos Item, also applauded the governor’s leadership, saying it had restored stability at the grassroots and renewed public confidence in governance.

He appealed for increased government presence and additional appointments for the area.

Also speaking, the member representing Obudu/Bekwarra/Obanliku Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Peter Akpanke, thanked the governor for supporting the people of Obanliku and pledged the continued loyalty of political leaders, traditional rulers and stakeholders to the administration’s development agenda.

He also called for sustained engagement between the government and traditional institutions to further advance the development of Obanliku and Cross River State.
