Kano State Governor, Abba Kabir Yusuf, has provided meals to over 1.1 million residents across the state’s eight metropolitan Local Government Areas in the first 10 days of the holy month of Ramadan through the state’s flagship feeding programme.
The milestone was confirmed by the Chairman of the programme and Commissioner of Religious Affairs, Sheikh Ahmed Tijjani Auwalu, during an inspection of feeding centres in Fagge, Nassarawa, and Gwale LGAs on Friday.
The development was disclosed in a statement issued on Saturday by Usman Gwadabe, Director of Public Enlightenment, Government House, Kano.
The statement revealed that the programme currently operates 115 approved centres, each distributing 1,000 food packages daily to the neediest residents—up from 95 centres in last year’s exercise.
Speaking on the success of the programme, Commissioner Auwalu said, “We are satisfied that most food providers strictly adhered to hygiene and contractual standards. Those who breached agreements have promptly corrected them.”
He added, “This expansion reflects Governor Yusuf’s passion for ensuring that even the less privileged have access to quality meals during the holy month.”
The Commissioner appealed to residents to continue praying for Governor Yusuf, the administration, and the overall development of Kano State, adding that reports from other ad-hoc committees overseeing the exercise were also satisfactory.
The Ramadan Feeding Programme underscores the state government’s dedication to social welfare, inclusivity, and the alleviation of hunger among residents, particularly during the holy month.
