From Musa Muhammad Kutama, Calabar
The presidential aspirant for the upcoming Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) election, Alhassan Yahaya, has shared his vision and mission with journalists in Cross River State and Nigeria at large.
He made this announcement during a briefing with his campaign team at the Etim Bassey Press Center in Calabar, Cross River State.
The event took place ahead of the elections scheduled this week in Owerri, the Imo State capital.
Speaking to the journalists, Comrade Yahaya emphasized that if given the mandate to lead the NUJ, he would restructure the union’s framework to enhance the welfare of its members.
He also vowed to eliminate any form of quackery within the journalism profession, ensuring that standards are upheld.
Yahaya strongly criticized the lackadaisical approach of some media organizations that delay payments to their staff and workers, particularly in terms of salaries and wages.
He promised that, under his leadership, the current national headquarters of the union would be equipped with modern amenities to support journalists who visit the headquarters.
The presidential candidate, who is running under the banner of the “Ring His Reign” platform, praised journalists for their dedication and diligent work in serving the nation.
He encouraged them to remain proactive in their duties and assured them that his leadership would provide an inclusive environment that promotes better relations between employers and employees.
He also appealed to Cross River journalists to support his candidacy.
In response, the Cross River State NUJ Chairman, Comrade Mrs Archibong Bassey, assured that under her leadership, the union would work towards realizing the aspirant’s vision.
She thanked Yahaya for his contributions to Cross River’s NUJ and the journalists in the state.
