Tension has gripped Danare Community in Boki Local Government Area of Cross River State following the alleged incursion of more than 200 armed Cameroonian soldiers into the Nigerian border settlement.
Community sources told Triumph correspondent that the development has sparked anxiety among residents, who expressed concerns over the presence of foreign troops within Nigerian territory and the potential security implications for the area.
The incident, which reportedly occurred without prior notification to local authorities, has raised fresh questions about security along the Nigeria–Cameroon border.
Several residents who spoke with our correspondent described the development as an unauthorized incursion and called on the Federal Government to urgently investigate the circumstances surrounding the movement of the troops into the community.
The situation has also heightened concerns about the protection of Nigeria’s territorial boundaries, particularly in border communities where residents maintain close cultural and economic ties with neighbouring settlements in Cameroon.
Residents urged Nigerian security agencies to strengthen border surveillance and monitoring mechanisms while promoting closer cooperation between authorities in both countries to prevent similar incidents in the future.
Community leaders have appealed for swift government intervention to reassure residents and ensure the continued security and stability of the border area.
