Plateau State has launched its 3rd Action Plan for the implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 1325 on Women, Peace, and Security.
The launch event was attended by key stakeholders, including government officials, civil society organizations, and international partners.
The UN Women Representative to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Beatrice Eyong, emphasized the significance of UNSCR 1325 in advancing gender equality and promoting women’s rights in peace and security.
She commended Plateau State for its commitment to implementing the resolution through the development of successive Action Plans.
The 3rd Action Plan aims to address the specific needs and challenges faced by women in Plateau State, including violence against women, limited participation in decision-making processes, and lack of access to justice. It focuses on four key pillars: participation, protection, prevention, and relief and recovery.
Prof. Chris Kwaja, a key expert involved in the development of the plan, highlighted the importance of ensuring women’s empowerment and participation in peacebuilding efforts.
He stressed the need for a deliberate and systematic approach to address gender inequality and to empower women at all levels of society.
The launch of the 3rd Action Plan marks a significant step forward in promoting women’s rights and gender equality in Plateau State.
By implementing the plan, the state government aims to create a more inclusive and equitable society where women can fully participate in peacebuilding and development processes.
