The Plateau State Police Command has arrested three suspects in connection with armed robbery and kidnapping in Bassa Local Government Area.
Parading the suspects on Tuesday at the command headquarters in Jos, Commissioner of Police, Emmanuel Olugbemiga Adesina, said the arrest followed a report lodged on August 13, 2025, by three victims – Abubakar Mohammadu, Nasiru Umar and Haruna Mohammed – all residents of Kishika, Bassa LGA.
According to the CP, the victims were attacked on July 27, 2025, around 10pm while returning from Bukuru cattle market where they had sold three cows.
“They were dispossessed of the sum of ₦1,918,000, being proceeds of their cattle sales, as well as personal items including a Tecno T528 phone, an Itel phone, two knives and three walking sticks,” Adesina said.
He disclosed that detectives from Bassa Division swung into action after the report and arrested three suspects: Jafaru Sale, Abdulsalam Adam, and Mamuda Musa.
“The suspects confessed to carrying out a series of armed robberies along Bassa and Jengre communities. The case is under investigation at the State CID and they will be charged to court upon conclusion,” the CP stated.
In a related development, Adesina said operatives from Langtang South Division, acting on intelligence, raided the residence of a suspect, Kokyak, in Mabudi on August 18, 2025.
“Though the suspect fled, a search warrant executed in his house led to the recovery of a locally fabricated rifle with an empty magazine. Efforts are on to track him down for prosecution,” he added.
The police boss commended journalists for what he described as accurate and citizen-centered reportage which, according to him, had been instrumental in sustaining peace on the Plateau.
He also appreciated the government and residents of the state for their cooperation, especially in the area of intelligence sharing.
“As a command, we are doing everything within our constitutional powers to ensure Plateau remains peaceful,” Adesina assured.
