The Adamawa State Police Command has arrested two suspects in connection with a renewed communal clash between the Bachama and Chobo communities in Lamurde Local Government Area of the state, which reportedly led to the killing of three women.
The women were said to have been attacked while working on their farms near Tigno village on January 3, 2026.
The police described the incident as part of escalating communal tensions in the area, noting that the victims were members of the Chobo community and were allegedly attacked by assailants from the Bachama side.
According to intelligence reports, operatives of the command apprehended two suspects, identified as William Joshua, 30, and Ezekiel Luka, 23, both residents of Tigno village.
A swift operation by the police led to the recovery of 29 rounds of live ammunition, one AK-47 rifle magazine, ₦90,000 cash, and other dangerous weapons from the suspects.
The latest violence comes barely weeks after a fragile peace accord was reached in late December 2025, following earlier clashes in the same area that resulted in multiple deaths, destruction of property, and the burning of villages.
The conflict, which is rooted in long-standing land disputes and ethnic grievances, had previously prompted government interventions, including the imposition of curfews and the deployment of security personnel.
Reacting to the development, the Commissioner of Police in the state, Dankombo Morris, appealed to residents to remain calm, assuring that the command was committed to arresting all those responsible.
“We are doing everything humanly and legally possible to ensure that the perpetrators and their accomplices are brought to justice,” Morris said in a statement issued through the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Suleiman Yahaya Nguroje.
The suspects are currently in custody and assisting investigators, while the police said further updates would be provided as the investigation progresses.
Meanwhile, residents and community leaders have expressed concern over the recurring violence, calling for sustained dialogue and lasting solutions to address the root causes of the conflict and prevent further loss of lives in Lamurde LGA.
