A chieftain of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Abdulaziz Maituraka, has sponsored a daily feeding programme for 1,000 people throughout the month of Ramadan.
Speaking at the launch of the initiative, Maituraka said the programme is aimed at supporting the needy and other vulnerable individuals in society.
He explained that the feeding initiative will be sustained throughout the fasting period.
“The feeding programme was introduced as part of my contribution to the Muslim Ummah and to assist the less privileged in observing Ramadan with ease,” he said.
According to Maituraka, the arrangement provides meals for 500 people during iftar (the breaking of fast) and another 500 during sahur (the pre-dawn meal).
He noted that the initiative, which started two years ago, is funded by his foundation and assured that it will be sustained in the coming years.
“For the past two years, we have implemented this feeding programme during Ramadan. We are committed to continuing it and even expanding it to reach more people,” he added.
Maituraka commended the state government for introducing a similar feeding programme and urged wealthy individuals to emulate such initiatives.
Earlier, the chairman-elect of Katsina Local Government, Isah Migidad, praised Maituraka for his foresight in initiating and sustaining the programme.
Migidad also urged Muslims to use the Ramadan period to pray for lasting peace in Katsina and across Nigeria.
