From Mu’awiya Bala Idris, Katsina
A member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Usman Murtala Banye, has distributed food items and clothing worth millions of naira to constituents in Katsina State ahead of the Ramadan fasting period.
Banye, who represents Batagarawa, Charanchi and Rimi Federal Constituency of Katsina State, said the gesture was aimed at improving the welfare of the beneficiaries and supporting them during the holy month.
He explained that the assistance would enable vulnerable residents to observe the fast without hardship.
“This is part of my contribution toward improving the lives of my constituents, especially during this sacred month of Ramadan,” the lawmaker said. “I want the beneficiaries to make judicious use of the food and clothing provided. Anyone caught selling the items will be blacklisted.”
He disclosed that a committee had been set up to ensure proper distribution and prevent diversion of the items.
Banye also called on local government councils in the state to begin the distribution of relief materials to vulnerable persons, women and others in need during the Ramadan period.
Earlier, a commissioner with the Katsina State Fiscal Commission, Yahaya Galadima, said eight trailers loaded with bags of rice, spaghetti, sugar and clothing materials would be distributed across wards in the three local government areas.
According to him, the intervention marked the third time the lawmaker had undertaken such an initiative, urging other political office holders to emulate the gesture.
In his remarks, the Katsina Zonal Chairman of the All Progressives Congress, Yahaya Asasanta, commended Banye for what he described as quality representation at the National Assembly.
Our correspondent reports that the items were distributed to traditional rulers, Islamic clerics, women, youths, vulnerable persons and members of communities across the constituency.
