In scenes of jubilant celebration, Kano witnessed the triumphant return of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II to the palace on Saturday evening. The beloved emir, who will now be known as the 16th Kano Emir, embarked on a symbolic tour of the palace accompanied by the mammoth supporters as well as the state Governor, Alhaji Abba Kabir Yusuf, marking a new chapter for the Emirate.
Just two-days prior, the state government’s announcement of Sanusi’s reinstatement sent a wave of excitement through the city. The palace, once shrouded in uncertainty following the 2020 dethronement, transformed into a vibrant tableau of celebration.
Colourful lights illuminated the facade, casting a warm glow on the throngs of well-wishers gathered outside.
The Triumph correspondent who has been to the Emir’s Palace interviewed a cross-section of the Sanusi’s supporters who trooped out in their large numbers to show solidarity to the Emir: “I’m one of the supporters of the new Kano Emir, we are absolutely thrilled about his reinstatement! We’re so grateful to Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf for making this happen,” a supporter enthusiastically told.
Sanusi, moved through the throng, shaking hands and exchanging warm embraces. He listened patiently to the pronouncements of the people, the air thick with relief, joy, and a profound sense of unity.
A smile beamed on the face of a supporter identified as Haruna told our correspondent that: “Finally, justice prevails! The reinstatement of the Emir is a victory for the people of Kano. We celebrate this momentous occasion and pledge our unwavering loyalty to our rightful ruler.”
“This is a joyous day for Kano! The rightful heir is back on the throne,” a supporter proclaimed to The Triumph Newspaper correspondent, their voice brimming with excitement. “We have missed the wisdom and guidance of our Emir, and we are confident that Kano will prosper under his leadership once again.”
The celebratory mood continued as the Emir embarked on a tour of the palace. Each step he took was met with thunderous cheers and chants of “Long live the Emir!” He paused to admire the intricate artwork adorning the walls, each piece a testament to Kano’s rich history. He conversed with palace elders, their weathered faces reflecting a lifetime of service to the Emirate.
This tour wasn’t merely symbolic; it was a powerful act of reclaiming his rightful place. With each room he entered, Sanusi reconnected with the heart and soul of Kano. It was a homecoming not just for the Emir, but for the entire Kano community.
