The Kano State Government has intensified efforts to strengthen peacebuilding, youth reformation and crime prevention initiatives through strategic collaboration with security agencies under its Safe Corridor Programme, Kano Model.
The Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Waiya, disclosed this following a courtesy visit to the Kano State Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Commandant Mohammed Hassan Agalama.
According to Waiya, the visit formed part of the government’s ongoing stakeholders’ engagement aimed at consolidating support for the Safe Corridor Programme a community-driven initiative designed to promote peace, security and sustainable development across the state.
He explained that discussions during the meeting focused on strengthening community-based and non-kinetic approaches to peacebuilding, youth rehabilitation and crime prevention, stressing that collaboration among critical institutions remains essential to achieving lasting peace.
The commissioner noted that both parties exchanged ideas on practical measures that would encourage responsible citizenship, patriotism and social inclusion, particularly among young people who constitute a significant segment of the state population.
Waiya emphasized that the Kano State Government remains committed to empowering youths with opportunities that will enable them to become productive members of society and key drivers of economic and social development.
He further stated that the Safe Corridor Kano Model continues to gain momentum due to the support of relevant institutions and leaders who share the administration’s vision of building a safer, more prosperous and more stable Kano State.
According to him, youth-focused interventions remain at the heart of the programme, with efforts geared towards guiding young people toward positive values while discouraging criminal tendencies and social vices.
The commissioner expressed confidence that sustained partnerships between government agencies, security institutions and community stakeholders would significantly enhance peace and stability across the state.
He reaffirmed the government determination to work collectively with all relevant actors to ensure Kano continues on the path of peace, security, stability and development, adding that the success of the Safe Corridor Programme depends on shared responsibility and continuous engagement among stakeholders.
