The Office of the Deputy Governor of Kano State has issued a strong disclaimer regarding a fraudulent post currently making the rounds on social media, which falsely claims to offer financial grants in the name of the Deputy Governor, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo.
In a statement released on Tuesday and signed by Ibrahim Garba Shuaibu, Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor, the public was urged to disregard the misleading post and remain vigilant against such cybercrimes.
“Our attention has been drawn to a fraudulent post circulating on social media, falsely claiming to offer financial grants in the name of the Deputy Governor of Kano State, His Excellency, Comrade Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo,” the statement read.
“We wish to state categorically that neither the Deputy Governor, his aides, nor any member of his family is aware of or involved in this scam.”
The deputy governor’s office described the scheme as a criminal act designed to deceive the public and potentially extort innocent citizens. It further encouraged members of the public to report anyone sharing or promoting the scam to law enforcement authorities.
“This act constitutes cybercrime, and anyone found to be involved will face the full weight of the law,” the statement warned.
The clarification comes amidst a growing wave of internet fraud across the country, where public figures’ names and identities are often hijacked by scammers to defraud unsuspecting Nigerians.
The deputy governor’s office reassured residents of Kano State and the general public of its commitment to transparency and lawful engagement with the people, urging everyone to verify any suspicious offer or announcement through official government channels.
Authorities have begun investigating the source of the misleading post, and appropriate security agencies have been notified to take action against the perpetrators.
