From Umar Danladi Ado, Sokoto
Relief has turned into celebration in Sokoto South as Hon. Malam Ya’u Muhammad Danda, Chairman of Sokoto South Local Government Area, has commenced the construction of the long-abandoned Anguwar Mana Karama–Masau Road.
For years, the road linking the two communities had been a source of hardship for residents, traders, students, and motorists.
During the rainy season, the road became waterlogged and almost impassable, forcing commuters to use longer and more expensive routes.
Access to markets, schools, and healthcare facilities was often disrupted.
However, the situation changed as bulldozers and graders arrived at the site, prompting residents to come out in large numbers to witness the commencement of the project.
Market women sang, youths waved banners, and community elders offered prayers. Many described the intervention as “a prayer answered.”
“There is no doubt that residents of these areas are extremely happy with this laudable project by the Chairman of Sokoto South Local Government, Malam Ya’u Muhammad Danda,” a community leader said during the flag-off ceremony.
Traders in Masau said the road project would reduce transportation costs and minimise post-harvest losses, while parents noted that it would make school journeys safer for children.
Security stakeholders also welcomed the development, saying improved road access would enhance patrol operations and emergency response.
Hon. Ya’u Danda has repeatedly assured residents that infrastructure development would remain a priority of his administration.
With the flag-off of the Anguwar Mana Karama–Masau Road, the chairman has translated residents’ appeals into concrete action.
Residents have prayed for the speedy and quality completion of the project.
They urged the contractor to strictly adhere to specifications, saying, “We have suffered enough on this road.”
The chairman is expected to conduct periodic inspections to ensure that the work progresses according to schedule.
“Alhamdulillah, your appeal has been granted. We have commenced the construction of the Anguwar Mana Karama–Masau Road because we listened, and we will deliver. Sokoto South deserves better roads,” Hon. Malam Ya’u Muhammad Danda said.
Danda also vowed to ensure that the project is completed according to specifications.
He urged residents to take ownership of the project by preventing vandalism and supporting efforts to monitor the road works.
He added, “We will never relent in doing our best to complement the 9-Point Smart Agenda of Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State.”
