The Sokoto State Government has established an Economic Advisory Council to create a comprehensive economic roadmap for the state.
Governor Ahmed Aliyu inaugurated the council on Sunday, expressing concerns about the state’s lack of economic data and poor tax collection.
Governor Aliyu emphasized that his administration has been addressing debts inherited from the previous administration since taking office.
He urged the council to provide practical solutions to these challenges, leveraging their expertise in finance, commerce, and industry to align with his administration’s strategic agenda.
In his remarks, the chairman of the Economic Advisory Council, Alhaji Bello Maccido, assured the governor and the state that, they would do everything possible to advise the government on how best to step into the path of solid economic prosperity.
While reassured to be advising on the sectors of focus and on innovative financial solutions that will help the state, broaden its sources of financing.
Maccido further noted that he has confidence in his, t committee members. Thus, there would be no disappointment.
Members of the committee includes, Umar Ajiya of the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited is to serve as alternate chairman of the committee alongside other members like the immediate past Vice Chancellor of Usman Danfodiyo University, Professor Lawal Bilbis.
Others are Sen. Ibrahim Gobir, Abdulkadir J Bello, Abdullahi Aminu Tafida, Sen. Ibrahim Danbaba, Prof Nasiru Yauri, Muhammad Kurfi, Abdulrahman Musa Bashir, Olaseni Oduwole, Alhaji Faruk A. Maishanu and Commissioners of Finance Budget, Innovation and Digital Economy, Justice among others.
The Special Adviser to Sokoto State on Economy, Dr Bashir Achida would serve as secretary of the economic advisory committee.
