From Umar Danladi Ado, Sokoto
Sokoto State has launched a Conditional Cash Transfer (CCT) program for 41,825 adolescent female students across the state’s 23 local government areas.
The program, a key component of the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) initiative, aims to support vulnerable households and promote girls’ education through targeted financial assistance.
The official flag-off ceremony was presided over by Hajiya Fatima Ahmed Aliyu, the wife of the Sokoto State Governor, at the Government House in Sokoto.
The First Lady commended Governor Ahmed Aliyu for prioritizing girl-child education and appreciated AGILE and other development partners for their support.
“I was honored to flag off the Conditional Cash Transfer Programme under AGILE. This is a landmark moment for Sokoto State”.
While we are supporting 41,825 families, the true impact is measured not in numbers, but in lives changed, dreams nurtured, and opportunities unlocked.
“For each beneficiary, it means a girl can stay in school and build her future, no longer held back by the burden of poverty. Education is the most powerful tool we have to break the cycle of poverty.
“This program ensures that no girl is left behind simply because her family faces financial hardship. It’s an investment in empowerment, dignity, and the future of our communities. When you educate a girl, you educate a nation.
“My heartfelt appreciation goes to His Excellency, the Governor of Sokoto State, for providing an enabling environment for AGILE to prosper and for his unwavering leadership in making education a top priority.
“I also commend the National Project Coordinator of AGILE, our development partners, and the incredible Sokoto AGILE team for their dedication.
“To the beneficiaries: Please see this support as an opportunity to secure your daughters’ future.
“Use it to keep them in school, encourage their learning, and help them achieve greatness.
“Together, we are planting seeds of hope and prosperity for Sokoto State.
The AGILE project was flagged off by the Sokoto State Governor, Dr. Ahmad Aliyu, in January 2025, with several impactful initiatives aimed at enhancing education in Sokoto State.
The program has achieved tremendous success since its inception, with over 200,000 adolescent girls targeted to benefit before the end of the initiative.
Each beneficiary will receive N40,000 every term for as long as the project exists.
The beneficiaries expressed joy and appreciation for the program, assuring that they will make the best use of the funds to support their education.
The state Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Professor Ahmed Ladan Ala, lauded the Sokoto State government for its continuous support to the project.
