The Sokoto State Government, under Governor Ahmad Aliyu Sokoto, has reaffirmed its commitment to developing youth and sports activities in the state.
The Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Engr. Mustapha Muhammad, assured that the administration is determined to revive and renovate sports facilities to meet national standards.
Speaking during an inspection of various facilities under his ministry, Engr. Muhammad emphasized that sports activities in the state would receive a significant boost.
Accompanied by the Permanent Secretary, Muhammad Bello Yusuf, and several directors from the ministry, the commissioner first visited Giginya Memorial Stadium, where they were received by the Director of Sports, Abdulhakim Yakubu.
The team inspected various sections of the stadium, including the basketball court, badminton court, handball court, volleyball court, gymnasium, administration block, clinic, and grounded vehicles.
According to a statement issued by Aminu Sani, the ministry’s Public Relations Officer, the commissioner and his entourage also visited the grassroots players’ field, players’ camp, and coaches’ residences.
At the State Youth Development Center, the Director of Youths, Abdul Rahman Aliyu, led the team on a tour of the offices, conference hall, workshop, and classrooms.
The final stop was the Federal Youth Development Center in the Bado area, a project initiated by the federal government but left neglected by the previous administration.
Permanent Secretary Muhammad Bello Yusuf explained that the visit aimed to assess and showcase the facilities under the ministry’s supervision.
Both the Director of Sports, Abdulhakim Yakubu, and the Director of Youths, Abdul Rahman Aliyu, expressed their satisfaction with the commissioner’s visit, highlighting its importance in revitalizing the state’s sports sector.
