President Bola Tinubu has congratulated the Governor of Kano State, Abba Kabir Yusuf, on his 63rd birthday, commending his integrity, humility and commitment to public service.
Tinubu’s congratulatory message was contained in a statement issued on Sunday by his Special Adviser on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The President noted that Yusuf’s leadership style and governance approach reflect a strong commitment to grassroots development and the welfare of the masses.
Yusuf, who was elected governor in 2023 on the platform of the New Nigeria Peoples’ Party, previously served as Commissioner for Works, Housing and Transport in Kano State between 2011 and 2015 under the administration of former governor, Senator Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso.
Tinubu described Kano as a bastion of progressive politics in the North, adding that Yusuf’s administration echoes the legacy of the late Mallam Aminu Kano, particularly in championing policies aimed at improving the lives of the talakawa.
“Governor Yusuf’s leadership experience, particularly his years as commissioner managing strategic portfolios in Kano State, may have prepared him for the kind of infrastructural changes now witnessed in the state,” the President said.
He noted that the governor had embarked on urban renewal programmes, including the construction of bridges and road networks across the state.
“He has embarked on urban renewal programmes, building bridges and road networks, including the five-kilometre roads in each local government in the state,” Tinubu added.
The President also lauded Yusuf’s declaration of a state of emergency in the education sector, saying it has yielded positive results.
“I also understand that his declaration of emergency in education has engendered a marked improvement in the performance of Kano students in NECO examinations,” he said.
Tinubu wished the Kano governor a long life and more years of impactful leadership in the state.
