The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), in collaboration with the Katsina State Government, has launched the distribution of Ready-To-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) to over 8,000 malnourished children.
Speaking at the event, UNICEF representative in Nigeria, Cristian Mandūate, said the 7,000 cartons of life-saving RUTF will be distributed to affected children in 24 local government areas of the state.
Mandate added that the nutrition was procured jointly by UNICEF and Katsina state governments as part of an effort to fight malnutrition.
According to her, the life-saving supplement is targeted to teach children between 0-5 years with severe acute malnutrition.
She, however, said that the procured RUTF was for 2023.
Speaking earlier, Governor Dikko Umar Radda commended UNICEF for its intervention in key areas to address issues affecting the state.
Radda acknowledged the high rate of nutrition in the state and assured his administration’s commitment to addressing the problem.
