The Yahaya Bello Media office has again reported that despite ex-governor Yahaya Bello’s presence at the headquarters of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday, he was neither attended to nor interrogated by its officials.
This is contained in a statement signed by the Director of Media, Michael Ohiare, on Wednesday.
The statement reads: “The EFCC did not, however, interrogate him as officials told him he could leave. We don’t know what this means yet. As we write, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has left the EFCC office.
He was accompanied there by the Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Ahmed Usman Ododo.”
Ohiare said Bello and his retinue of sympathisers were however asked to leave by the officers, who did not conduct the anticipated interrogation.
Our correspondent gathered that ex-governor’s media office in a statement revealed that Alhaji Yahaya Bello had voluntarily surrendered himself to the commission for interrogation in connection with an alleged N80.2billion money laundering charges.
Meanwhile, the EFCC has described as false and incorrect the claim by the ex-governor’s media team that the immediate past governor of the state, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello was in its custody.
The EFCC in a press release signed by the Head, Media & Publicity, Dele Oyewale on its X handle @officialEFCC today said the statement issued by the Yahaya Bello Media office, and widely circulated by various media outlets was incorrect.
The Commission’s statement reads, “Media reports that a former governor of Kogi State, Mr. Yahaya Bello is in the holding facility of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is incorrect. The Commission wishes to state that Bello is not in its custody.
Bello, already declared wanted by the Commission for alleged N80.2billion money laundering charges, remains wanted with a subsisting warrant for his arrest,” the statement concluded.
