The Yobe State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has recorded the defection of about 293 groups from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Potiskum Local Government Area, including the party chairman of the local government.
The mass defection, one of the largest in the area in recent times, was led by the PDP Chairman in Potiskum LGA, Alhaji Audu Hamisu, popularly known as “Soja Boy.”
According to reports, the defectors were drawn from several grassroots groups, including Tora-Bora, Texaco, Sokol-Jigawa, Dorawa, Kabul, Kamfala, Old Kwata, Rasha, and Big Soja, among others.
In his speech while receiving the decampees in Potiskum, the Yobe State APC Chairman, Alhaji Muhammad Gadaka, described the party as inclusive and accommodating, attributing its growing strength to its broad-based appeal.
Gadaka commended the policies of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the administration of Governor Mai Mala Buni, urging the new members to contribute actively to the party’s success in the 2027 elections.
He said the APC is a broad-based platform that offers equal opportunities to all members, irrespective of background.
“I urge you to integrate quickly and work for the party’s victory in the forthcoming elections,” he added.
In his remarks, Audu Hamisu said the decision to defect followed consultations and a review of the APC’s performance at both the state and federal levels.
Hamisu cited improvements in security, economic policies, and grassroots development as key factors behind the move.
“After a careful assessment with his supporters, they are convinced that our political future lies with the APC,” he said.
