Yobe State Governor, Hon. Mai Mala Buni, has reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening its partnership with the International Organization for Migration (IOM) to enhance ongoing resettlement, reconstruction, and recovery efforts in the state.
In a statement on Saturday signed by Mamman Mohammed, Director-General, Press and Media Affairs to the Governor, Buni gave the assurance while receiving the IOM Chief of Mission in Nigeria, Sharon Dimanche, in Damaturu.
Governor Buni noted that his administration had launched a State Policy on Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) to holistically address the challenges faced by displaced communities.
“As part of our commitment, we have allocated five per cent of the state budget to infrastructure development and the dignified resettlement and integration of IDPs,” he said.
He highlighted investments in education, agriculture, healthcare, roads, electricity, and water supply as key pillars of the state’s post-conflict recovery strategy.
“I am proud to say we no longer have IDP camps in Yobe. All displaced persons have been resettled with dignity, making Yobe a reference point in post-insurgency recovery,” Buni stated.
In her remarks, Sharon Dimanche praised the Governor’s dedication to the welfare of displaced persons.
“It takes a leader with a compassionate heart to ensure the resettlement of IDPs with such dignity,” she said.
Dimanche assured that IOM remains committed to partnering with the Yobe State Government to further improve the lives of the people.
