A coalition of youth groups in Zamfara State has called on Governor Dauda Lawal to return to active governance and address the state’s security challenges following his expulsion from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Hon. Maidamma Maigadaje Dangulbi, chairman of the Coalition of Youth Groups on Peace and Stability in Zamfara, made the appeal in an interview with newsmen on Wednesday in Gusau.
Dangulbi decried what he described as the governor’s “absence” amid rising banditry, stressing that engaging in party politics at this time is neglecting the state’s pressing needs.
“2027 is still far; Governor Lawal needs to focus fully on good governance as the state requires more development infrastructure and services, especially in rural areas suffering from poverty, insecurity, and health challenges,” he said.
He also urged the governor to provide more support to security operatives, noting that some personnel struggle to get access to him for intelligence sharing.
Dangulbi lamented the increase in kidnappings and bandit attacks during the rainy season in Tsafe, Maru, Bukkuyum, Gummi, Shinkafi, and Zurmi local government areas, adding that the situation is worsening while the governor is away engaging in political affairs.
The group commended the efforts of Operation Fansan Yamma troops for recent operations to secure high-risk areas, despite limited attention and support from the state government.
It was recalled that a faction of the PDP led by the Federal Capital Territory Minister, Mr. Wike, expelled some party notables, including Governor Lawal.
Governor Lawal has been credited with initiatives aimed at improving security in Zamfara, including the establishment of the Zamfara Community Protection Guards and collaboration with security agencies to neutralize bandit leaders.
His administration has also focused on infrastructure, education, and healthcare development.
