A governorship aspirant of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) in Katsina State, Lawal Musa Daura, has defected to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Daura, a former Director-General of the Department of State Services (DSS), announced his defection while addressing his supporters at the Munaj Event Centre in Katsina on Sunday.
He said he had left the ADC several months ago, explaining that his prolonged silence was not due to fear but part of efforts to carefully plan his political ambition.
According to him, his decision to join politics was driven by the desire to contribute to efforts to rescue Nigeria from insecurity, poor leadership and economic challenges.
“I joined politics not to achieve personal ambition, but because of my concern for the country and its people,” he said.
Daura described the APM as a winning party and called on Nigerians to support and vote for the party in the 2027 general elections.
He also urged his supporters to remain united, patient and committed, assuring them that his political office would soon release detailed plans on his political activities.
Earlier, the Director-General of the Daura Campaign Organisation, Ali Sani, commended the large turnout of supporters at the event, saying it demonstrated Daura’s popularity and acceptance in Katsina State and across the North.
Sani described the APM as a national political party with members across the country, adding that Daura’s defection had further strengthened the party and made it more formidable.
In his remarks, the Katsina State Chairman of the APM, Nura Abdullahi, said the party had established structures across the 361 wards and 6,562 polling units in the state.
Abdullahi welcomed Daura and other defectors into the party and assured them of fair treatment, saying their inclusion would strengthen unity and the party’s structures in Katsina.
During the event, several speakers reaffirmed their loyalty and support for Daura, pledging to work towards the actualisation of his political ambition.
They commended his courage and commitment to Nigeria and called on Nigerians to rally behind him.
Our correspondent reports that there are indications that Daura may be considered as a running mate to the APM presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections.
